Below is an essential speaker checklist that will give you the exact ideas you need to gain clarity of your speaking business to avoid errors that can rob you while on stage.
This article will give you a thorough grasp of the bits and pieces of mastering your Public speaking arrangements on the areas of
- Presentation
- Venue
- Audience
- Date/Time of presentation and more.
Travel
- Directions to venue /map/ distance from the hotel
- Passport and airplane tickets
- Online checks in and print boarding pass
- Public transport schedule
- Backup plan in case first transport choice falls through
Communication
- Mobile phone/charger / (charger (including adapter for the destination country/ continent)
- Phone numbers of contacts at speaking venue
- Business card
- Brochures/samples/promotional material
- Pens/pencils
- Notepad/post-it Notes
- Final size participant numbers, timing and profile of the final audience
- Send pre-invoice or deposit payment request
- Checklist final agenda of the event
Venue
- Visit venue beforehand and do some pre-checks
- Review floor plan
- Review photos of the training hall if you are not able to visit the venue beforehand physically
- Confirm equipment at venue
- Check the following:
- Remote control for presentation
- Extension cord
- Adapter to connect computer to beamer, especially for Apple devices like the Mac book
- If local computers are is required for use
- Check the sound system and be sure it is at good state
- Confirm internet connections
Equipment
- Laptop/charger with local adapter according to the country/ region
- IPad/ tablet charger with the local adapter
- Timer
- Voting gadget or other technical equipment
- Presentation
- Written introduction for the person presenting you. (Create a good rapport with this persons because the way you are introduce has a strong impact to your entire talk) and also make sure you do your assignment because a strong introduction without a strong deliver will mere your brand.
- Your Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube handles/channel highlighted
- Speaking NOTES
- Backup of presentation on email, USB disk, and alternative slide application converted into pdf, Dropbox or google Drive
- Hard copy of presentation slides/alternative way of presentation without slides (IPad offline version)
- Bold markers for flip chart/Whiteboard
- Evaluation form for audience (optional)
Before your presentation
- Arrive at least 1-2 hours before the presentation time
- Meet event organizer beforehand and get to really know them with their works and other things they do beyond the event theme.
- Meet stage technician and shake hands and create a rapport with him/her
- Test together with your technician presentation equipment and run a sound check
- Prepare speaking area (lectern, walking space, flip charts, etc)
After the presentation
- Remind especially your participants about your social media presence
- Send public version of your presentation to the organizer for distribution
- Ask for feedback, testimonials and referral from organizers
- Request event photos for social media and personal website
- Send invoice
